Built around a .222 caliber Sako L461 barreled action, this custom stocked rifle will take your breath away! Dennis Earl Smith, a master stock maker in the American Custom Gunmakers Guild, crafted this stunning example. Mr Smith has a real knack for incorporating complicated details in his stocks, such as the tapered shelf under the safety and raised ribbon patterns in the checkering. His borderless checkering layout and execution is crisp, even and second to none. Furthermore, his inletting work is so good it looks like the metal components grew out of the wood. As you can see from the pictures, the wood selected for this project was not just by accident! The gorgeous grain pattern is of a size that it matches the scale of this dainty rifle! Length of pull is 13-1/2" from the trigger over the curved, checkered steel Niedner style buttplate.
The metal components wear a professionally applied slow rust blued finish that is even and rich and shows no flaws or handling marks. The 23-1/2" barrel has a crisp, clean shiny bore with perfect rifling from front to back.
In virtually as new condition, this six pound eight ounce, very handsome, useable rifle is a one of a kind custom that could easily redefine the high water mark of any enthusiast's collection.
