This WC Scott Sidelock Ejector is instantly recognizable as a fine English shotgun, even from a distance. The desireable features are present, such as full bar-action sidelocks, automatic safety and strong, perfectly-timed ejectors. The gorgeous walnut stock, small at the wrist and big at the butt, has a 14-3/4" pull from the front non-articulated trigger over a 1" Decelerator pad. Drop is approx 1-1/4" at the comb and 1-1/8" at the heel. There is no visible cast, and the pitch is very pleasing to the eye. Built in the twenties, the proportions just look and feel great!
Weighing seven pounds, two ounces, with a balance point just at the rear of the hinge pin, this great gun feels lively between the hands. Beautifully finished wood, with a minimum of handling marks, stands slightly proud of the metal in almost all areas of inletting. This is is a nice combination with the great case colors remaining.
The 28" steel barrels weigh three pounds even, have beautiful, shiny, blemish-free 0.734" bores, are choked 0.010" and 0.020" with minimum wall thickness at 0.026". Exterior of the barrel set is very good, with the blacking thinning some on the sides, above the fore end. Beautifully matted rib is topped with an ivory front bead and finished with a Greener crossbolt at the back. These barrels lock-up tight on face with no movement after they have smartly clicked-shut. The top lever lands just a hair to the right of center. Factory nitro proofs are for 2-5/8" chamber and 1-1/8 ounce loads. There appears to be plenty of metal to bring the chambers out to 2-3/4" if desired, but an experienced shotgun smith should be consulted prior to lengthening.
The tastefully engraved action retains a high level of condition and crispness. Even the watertable and standing breeches with disc set strikers are relatively blemish-free. This is a very usable and shootable gun, that has "the look", with no cracks or flaws. This gun was built in the Golden Age of british gunmaking, between the wars, adding much to its desireability.
Here is the opportunity to obtain a great British sidelock ejector, from a respected and well-known maker, for a reasonable price.
